Since it's detox week I figured it was a great time to talk about poop. As uncomfortable as this posting is to write, I have personally benefited from common and uncommonly known poop facts. Facts like what poop colors are normal, how often should I go, food that's make me go, and natural remedies to cure constipation. 

So sit down get comfortable and enjoy these fun facts and natural remedies for healthy bowel movements.

  • Pooping can give you insight into your intestinal health
  • Being knowledgeable about your digestive process can help you identify when something is wrong

  • Good poops make you run faster
  • According to the National Digestive Disease Information Clearing House (NDDIC) 63 million people are chronically constipated. Over one million of those people require hospitalization

Frequency
The average time, most, people go doodie is twice a day, but many people go more and less then that. As long as you are comfortable and do not feel constipated you are fine

Color
  • Poop is usually brown because of bile which is produced in the liver
  • Food typically takes 3 days from the time you eat to the time you go to the bathroom
  • If it takes a shorter time, your poop may be green because green is the first color of the digestion color wheel
  • If the color of your stool drastically changes it could be a red flag
  • If stool is black it could mean you are internally bleeding
  • If the color of your stool is light grey it can indicate a block in the flow of bile or liver disease


Shape & Size
As long as you comfortable no worries. If the shape and size of your poop varies in a "cool way" you might want to keep a camera handy  

What is Constipation
Constipation is the inability to have a bowl movement at least 3 times a week


What causes Constipation
  • Dehydration
  • Lack of dietary fiber
  • Low magnesium levels
  • Stress & Anxiety
  • Prescription drugs
  • Antibiotics
  • Anti-depression
  • Narcotics

When You Are Constipated 
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Eat a variety of healthy food, vegetables, and fruits
  • Regular exercise
  • Eat Activa yogurt
  • Drink Green tea
  • Metamucil
  • High fiber foods
  • Beans
Water + fiber + exercise = Happy Poop 


Foods to Eat when your Constipated 
  • Leafy Greens like Spinach, Swiss Chard, Kale - all contain a good amount of dietary fibers
  • Avocados - Chalked full of magnesium
  • Cultured or Fermented Vegetables - Full of fiber and an excellent source of probiotic's and digestive enzymes
  • Yogurt - Plain organic yogurts and homemade plain yogurts provide a lot of probiotic's that increase regularity
  • Prunes - A good source of fiber, the skin contain a mild laxative
  • Radishes - Detox  livers, pushes excess bile out and promotes the action of peristalsis, the relaxation of contractions of the intestines
  • Flax-seed - Great source of omega3 fatty acids, best taken on an empty stomach


Natural Colon Cleansers

Salt Water Flush


2 tbsp sea salt
32 liters purified water *bottle water
Combine salt and water and stir until combined
Try to drink it as quickly as possible 
*not uncommon to experience mild nausea or a headache
Poop  or "release" as needed over the next few hours

Vegetable Juices


Juice fresh vegetables, celery, broccoli, kale, lettuce, wheat grass, 
Juice apples and carrots to improve the taste of your green juice

Master Cleanser


2 tbsp Lemon Juice
2 tbsp Maple Syrup (grade B)
1/10 tsp ground cayenne pepper
10oz purified water *bottle water

Natural Herbs 
That help you have a smooth move
  • Aloe Vera - a natural laxatives **add to smoothie or juice
  • Slippery Elm - soothing and lubrication affect on the intestinal tract aids in IBS and stomach cramps
  • Dandelion - a natural laxatives **drink as tea
  • Nettle - a natural laxatives **drink as tea
  • Sorrel - a natural laxatives **drink as tea
