Teens alert in school = Sleeping in

NY Times - March 13, 2014 - By Jan Hoffman

Its been about a 20 year movement to start High School later has gained some movement in some communities

Hundreds of schools around the country are respecting the accumulating research on the adolescent body clock

In the last 2 years high schools in Long Beach CA, Stillwater Oklahoma, Decatur Georgia, Glen Falls NY, Connecticut, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Minnesota have adopted the new time change. The Seattle school board will vote this month to implement the time change.

Research has found that the later a school's start time, the better off the students were on many subjects - including mental health, car crash rates, attendance, and (in some schools) grades and standardized test scores

Researchers have found during adolescence teenagers who regularly sleep 8 to 9 hours of sleep learn better and are less likely to be tardy, get into fights, or sustain athletic injuries

Sleeping well can also help teenagers moderate their tendency toward impulsive or risky decision making

Some schools are pushing start times back to 9am and ending school around 4:05pm

Targets Photoshop editor gets a little to happy with the erase tool

New York Daily News - March 11, 2014 - By Rheana Murray

Target photoshop editors get overly excited and posted pictures of models in swim suits with chunks of their thighs, buttocks, and arms missing

Pissed shoppers have accused the brand of editing the image so the ,already thin models appear even skinner with sharp thigh gaps and skeletal limbs

Even worst the model was modeling a midkini - a two piece swim suit in their junior line

This is not the first time target online campaign has angered customers
  • In January the brand used a photo of a pregnant woman to advertise a pulse size dress
  • Last April the brand was criticized for calling the color of a pulse sized dress "manatee grey" while the same shade is called "dark heather grey" in regular sizes

DIY Pink Polka Dot Nails

I've been doing my nails myself lately. Partly because I want to save money, and because I'm tired of the same old nail polish. No one does fun designs anymore. It seems weird to say, since I live in San Francisco, but I haven't found a go-to nail salon for designs on natural nails. If you know me your not surprised to learn I decided to do them myself.

I went to Sally's yesterday and purchased about $30 worth of nail supplies, nail doters, out the door fast drying top coat, nail files and more. Today I took my time and put cute pink polka dots on my nails.

It's not a perfect job, but I am very happy and proud of myself.

More DIY nail designs to come!

You need:

3 different shades of pink (or whatever color you decided on)

Quality fast drying top coat
(because I never have the patience to wait for my nails to dry)

A nail doter

Paint your nails with the darkest pink shade you have
I did two coats to make sure it looked even

Use your nail doter and make dots on your nails, leaving room for more dots in another color

Use your last color and fill in the rest of your nails with dotting technique

It was hard to get a good picture
because my top coat is so shinny

This was a very simple design and I love it

That's all today folks
Enjoy your day!
Blessings
 Mary
